Belief Statement of First Baptist Church
At First Baptist Church Elmore City, we hold firmly to the teachings of the Bible as the inspired, inerrant Word of God. Our beliefs are rooted in the historic Christian faith, and we are committed to living out these truths in our daily lives.
1. The Bible
We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired, inerrant Word of God and is the ultimate authority in all matters of faith and practice. It is the source of truth, wisdom, and guidance for our lives.
2. The Trinity
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. Each is fully God, and together they are the one true God.
3. Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human. He was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, was crucified for our sins, and rose from the dead on the third day, offering forgiveness and eternal life to all who believe in Him.
4. Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. It is a free gift from God, not based on human effort or good works, but given to all who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
5. The Church
We believe that the Church is the body of Christ, made up of all true believers in Jesus. The local church is a fellowship of believers who gather together for worship, fellowship, teaching, and service. As a church, we are committed to making disciples, baptizing believers, and sharing the Gospel.
6. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper
We believe in the ordinance of baptism by immersion, symbolizing the believer’s identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We also practice the Lord’s Supper, a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice for us and a celebration of our communion with Him.
7. The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer, empowering them to live a Christ-centered life, equipping them with spiritual gifts, and guiding them into all truth. The Spirit also convicts the world of sin and draws people to faith in Christ.
8. The Second Coming of Christ
We believe in the imminent return of Jesus Christ to judge the living and the dead. At His return, all believers will be resurrected to eternal life, and those who have not trusted in Christ will face eternal separation from God.
9. The Sanctity of Life
We believe in the sanctity of every human life, created in the image of God, and that life begins at conception. We stand for the dignity and worth of every person, from the unborn to the elderly, and seek to love and care for all of God’s creation.
10. The Great Commission
We believe that every believer is called to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world. We are committed to fulfilling the Great Commission by making disciples, baptizing them, and teaching them to observe all that Jesus has commanded us.
